Louisiana OMV Change of Address, Canal Street, New Orleans

How to notify the Louisiana OMV of an address change?

Are you new to Louisiana or moving within the state? Or perhaps planning to wave goodbye to Louisiana? If you have a driver’s license, you’ll probably ponder on how to notify the Louisiana OMV of an address change?

Hurry up! You only get 10 days to change your address with the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. If you want to get done with the paperwork as soon as possible and enjoy the New Orleans Jazz and Voodoo experience, changing your address with the OMV should be on top of your moving to-do list.

Like any other state, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles handles all the motorist-related documents and queries. Want to renew your license or vehicle registration? Cancel your license plate or update your personal information? You’ll always find yourself outside a Louisiana OMV field office.

Here are the circumstances when you need to notify the OMV of an address change:

  • I’m moving within Louisiana
  • I’m moving from another State to Louisiana
  • I’m moving from Louisiana to another State

Why is it so important? Your mailing address with the OMV receives all the renewal notices, parking tickets, and other important notices relating to your driver’s license and vehicle registration. If you don’t want to miss them and get pulled over by legal authorities, you should probably update your address even before moving to Louisiana.

Updating your Address with Louisiana OMV

I’m moving within Louisiana: How to change my address with the Louisiana OMV?

Louisiana offers countless opportunities in terms of jobs and business. Chances are that you will move around cities or neighborhoods a couple of times in your lifetime.

If you drive a car, you must inform the OMV within 10 days of your move. With all the chaos of moving to a new place, don’t miss your visit to one of the OMV offices.

You can change your address with the OMV in the following ways:

  • In Person

That’s right, Louisiana OMV does not offer online services for an address change. However, you do get the following services through expresslane:

  • Driver’s license renewal
  • ID card renewal
  • Duplicate ID/license
  • Vehicle registration renewal
  • Duplicate vehicle registration
  • Number plate cancellation

Note: If your mailing address is different from what appears on the face of your license, you are not eligible to request a duplicate or a renewal online. You must visit your local Office of Motor Vehicles for the issuance of a new driver’s license.

And be aware that your driver’s license will not reflect the new mailing address even if you filled out an official U.S. Postal Service Change of Address Form. The same goes for vehicle registration.

With that out of the way, let’s see how you can update your address in person with the OMV.
