Methodology

There are many benefits to living in the UK, including its excellent educational system, beautiful countryside, rich culture, and abundance of employment options. Our methodology for choosing the top 10 best places to live in the UK is outlined below.

We based our ranking on 3 criteria: safety, affordability, and availability to recreational amenities and parks.

Our ranking is based on the crime rates in the four countries of the UK. According to CrimeRate.co.uk and the Scottish Government, the crime rate in the United Kingdom was 79.52 per 1,000 people in 2021–2022. The crime rate in England stood at 77.49 per 1,000 people, while it was 75.16 in Wales, 52.44 in Northern Ireland and 52.4 in Scotland.

We also collected the statistics from the UK – Office of National Statistics (ONS) and Police Service of Northern Ireland.

It would be useful to compare the statistics of the places concerned with the rates in the UK to support our ranking of the best places to live in the UK. According to the Office for National Statistics for data collected last August 2022, the average price to buy a property in the UK is £295,903, while the average rental price is £1,171 for data collected last October of the same year. We used the two-bedroom rental average, which was the most common type of rental.

We’ve used this data to rank the top 10 best places to live in the UK while also considering their quality of life (health, pollution, recreation, climate, education, and employment opportunities).
