What is the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA)?

The CRA is a Canadian federal agency that administers tax laws for the Government of Canada and for most provinces and territories, international trade legislation, and various social and economic benefit and incentive programs delivered through the tax system.

Who must notify the CRA of change of address?

Anyone earning revenue in Canada must update their address with the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA).  For most of us, when we talk about changes of address with the federal government, we mainly refer to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

What is the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) 

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) is known to be the backbone of Canada’s public retirement income system.

Election Canada

What is the Election Canada?

Elections Canada is the sole agency responsible for administering Canadian federal elections. Its responsibility is to ensure that Canadians can exercise their choices in federal elections and referendums through an open and impartial process and its primary task is to be prepared at all times to administer an electoral event. 

Who must notify Election Canada of a change of address?

You must inform Election Canada if you have the right to vote in Canada. You must be 18 years and older.

The National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC)

Change your address with The National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC).

Use this service if:

You have a student loan from the federal governement.

What you will need:

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Banking Information (account number and password)
  • Your MSFAA # (this is a 10 digit number). If you did not receive this number, please contact your province or territory
  • Date of Birth

Change your address with the Immigration and Citizenship agency of Canada.

Use this service if: 

You have an application in process with CIC. You are eligible if:

  • your case is being processed in Canada;
  • your address is in Canada;
  • you are moving within three weeks or have already moved.

What you will need:

Any documents related to your application, such as:

  • A copy of your application;
  • Your payment receipt;
  • Any letters or official document received from CIC.

Use this service if: 

You own one of the followings:

  • Payroll Plan;
  • Bond Certificates;
  • Registered products (Canada RSP or Canada RIF).

Canadian Firearms Program

What is the Canadian Firearms Program?

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is the federal and national police force of Canada, also responsible for the Canadian Firearms Program.

Who must notify the Royal Canadian Mounted Police of a change of address?

Anyone who own a licenced firearm.

Quebec residents can use the Service Québécois de Chagement d’Adresse (SQCA).  It will update your account with 6 Québec ministries including the SAAQ (motor vehicle licence and registration) and the RAMQ (health insurance).

Driving licence (SAAQ), Health Insurance card (RAMQ), Revenu Quebec and more.

What is the Service Québécois de changement d’adresse (SQCA)?

In a single step, send your new address to 6 participating departments and agencies with Service Québécois de Changement d’Adresse (SQCA). This service is managed by Service Quebec.

Who must notify Service Québec of change of address?

You are enrolled with one or more of these ministers of government agencies:

  • Directeur général des élections du Québec;
  • Ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale;
  • Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec;
  • Retraite Québec;
  • Revenu Québec;
  • Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec.

What you will need:

Depending on the organizations you are enrolled with, you may need:

  • Your driving licence;
  • Your Quebec health insurance card;
  • Your social insurance number;
  • Line 199 amount (dollar amount only) indicated on the Notice of Assessment issued to you by Revenue Quebec for the last income tax return you filed.

Use this service if:

You rent or own a residence and hold an account with Hydro-Québec.  

What you will need:

  • Your Hydro-Québec account number; or
